Still kinda tired from trans-atlantic travel and not much in the mood for typing here...for a bloody change, eh mate? But what a pleasure to've been out of the States if only for a week, out of the great swaddling, coddling bath of American self-absorption (except for my own, of course), not having to hear one fucking direct word about American politics. What a pleasure to walk along, say, Portobello Road in the Saturday crowd and scarcely hear a word of English...and while all those French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese etc. tourists mingling in the great sidewalk flow were likely chattering as inanely as anyone else on Earth, the sampling of languages was so musical and engulfing, not Babel at all but its opposite, united and agreeable, a tonic against the events of 3-11 in Madrid.
