So, London, I've been asked about London. I was there from March 6th thru 13th, and the weather was great, excepting the 11th and 12th when it rained fairly much, but then that just made it more English, dinnit? Lots of legwork and Tubing and my thin dollars got sucked up by the economy of the Roman shell, and I loved every bleeding minute. Highlights included: an excellent B&B in Notting Hill (a neighborhood that more than lived up to its funky reputation -- George Orwell, Jimi Hendrix, serious reggae, The Clash, and a really first-rate slumlord -- dare you to top all that); the V&A; a Ripper walk with a fine dramatic guide; a Thomas Fehlmann concert at the ICA (too bad there wasn't any time for the Yoko Ono movies!), the Olafur Eliasson installation in the Turbine Room at the Tate Modern; the National Theatre's production of The Pillowman (with Jim Broadbent) and the Albery Theatre's production of Endgame (with Michael Gambon as Hamm); dinner at The Rules (I didn't deserve it); a day trip to Salisbury and Stonehenge; crossing the famed Zebra Walk at Abbey Road. Most moving moment: see post for March 14th, the peaceful blend of languages and people in Portobello Road. Anti-trouble.
