OUR PAIN-IN-THE-ASS PRESIDENT: From today's New York Times (byline: Richard W. Stevenson)

"Then there is [Bush's] medical history, set out in more detail than many Americans might want to know. He had his tonsils removed as a young boy, had appendicitis when he was 10 and at 14 had an operation to remove a cyst from his chest, leaving a scar. At the time he applied for entrance into the guard, he had a hemorrhoid, the location of which was charted with military precision."

The same source that states a current total of 524 US Armed Forces fatalities in Iraq also states a total of 2,562 wounded, for a total of 3,086 US casualties (and, please remember, solely US; this figure does not include other US-led coalition forces nor Iraqi military and civilian casualties, for which latter group there is apparently no reliable accounting) since hostilities began just over ten months ago. Not precisely Vietnam c. 1968, but a steady accumulation nonetheless, which has shown no signs of slackening since Hussein's capture in December. Of course, it's not like somebody didn't ask for it.
